THE SHIPPING GUIDE

Good freight plans
start before loading.

A practical reference for measuring, declaring and documenting a general-goods shipment. Requirements depend on the actual operator and cargo.

01

Measure & weigh

Record total actual weight, package count and dimensions for each package type. Confirm units: kg and cm. Don’t rely only on a visual estimate.

02

Declare the goods

Describe the goods accurately. Disclose fragility, unusual dimensions, machinery, restricted or sensitive cargo. This demo calculator is for general non-hazardous goods only.

03

Pack for handling

Agree the packing, labelling, palletising and protection needed. Confirm who is responsible for loading, securing and unloading.

04

Confirm access

Provide pickup and delivery contacts, working hours, vehicle access, loading facilities and any site restrictions.

05

Review documentation

Ask the actual operator which invoice, goods declaration, consignment note and transport or e-way documents are required for your shipment. Requirements vary; verify them before dispatch.

06

Agree the quotation

Confirm chargeable weight or vehicle category, minimum freight, taxes, tolls, waiting, cover, exclusions and written acceptance.

07

Check the handover

Keep item and package records. Agree pickup and delivery acknowledgements, visible-condition notes and the process for raising concerns.
